First aid

The First aid (FA) unites the activities of the Bulgarian Red Cross Youth, related to the preparation and training of children and young people in preventive activities for the protection of life and public health. The modules in the field include First Aid, First psychological aid and Psycho-social support.

The main activities of the direction are expressed in two aspects. The first one is related to conducting trainings among children and young people to help them be prepare for response to disasters and crisis situations. The second one is aimed at raising awareness and preventing incidents through information campaigns and demonstrations.

In order to carry out the preventive activity of educating the population, the Bulgarian Red Cross Youth forms and maintains the following teams that work directly in the field of First Aid:

  • Student first aid teams, which can involve students between the ages of 12 and 14. Most often the teams are formed in schools or municipalities in the place of residence. The members of the teams are trained to provide first aid, first psychological aid, as well as knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Youth Emergency Teams, which consist of adult members of the Bulgarian Red Cross Youth. Each emergency team may be assisted by people between the ages of 16 and 18. The team training program includes topics such as first aid, first aid and psychosocial support, humanitarian assistance, work with groups and communities and others.
