Project "Improvement strategies for harm reduction among intravenous drug users: Red Approach in Europe
In April 2007 г. Foundation "Villa Maraini / Italian Red Cross initiated the application was a joint project under the Prevention of Drug Addiction, European Commission, including Villa Maraini, as a coordinating organization and the Bulgarian Red Cross, French Red Cross, Latvian Red Cross, Portuguese Red Cross as partner organizations and the Croatian Red Cross and the Macedonian Red Cross as associates in the project "Improvement of strategies for harm reduction among intravenous drug users: Red Approach in Europe. The project was approved by the European Commission for a period of implementation of 30 декември 2008 г. to 29 дDecember010 г..
Among the objectives of the project is the prevention of drug use, harm reduction among injecting drug users and promoting replacement therapy, and the creation of a multidisciplinary network of National Societies, to broaden knowledge and raise public awareness on social and health problems caused by drug use.
We successfully operate so-called. 'Drop-in' centers in the cities of Ruse and Kyustendil, in which one of the main activities is the exchange of needles and syringes (i.e. servants of theses centrove razdavat clean needle and syringe, as addicts returning used ones). The main objective is to reduce the risk of spread of HIV / AIDS, Hepatitis B and C and Syphilis.
Together with this activity, The staff organized and carried out psychological counseling for their clients, Tues join the various institutions for testing the HIW / Spin and tuberculosis. In cases, where necessary, customers are directed to the relevant institutions to provide specialized support (Legal, Health, Social and others.)
Between 01 December 2009 – 31 January 2010 were made in Rousse 70 unikalni contact, but they are in Kyustendil 120 cases per heroinozavisimi.
